Double Page Spread
Double Page Spread
This is my Double Page Spread I used a beige background to mirror the 80s style and put the 'SYNTH&SONs' logo on the headline. The 'SYNTH&SONs' logo mirrors the computer screens of old 80s PCs.
Contents Page
Contents Page
This is my contents page it also had a colour scheme of black white and pale green to suit that of the front cover.
Front Cover
Front Page
This is my front cover, i made it black white and pale green to attract an older clientele, filling a gap in the market whereby people aged 25-40 cannot buy magazines to suit their musical tastes.

Mock Shots
On this post are the original images taken for my magazine. This is before I have manipulated them on Photoshop and I intend to explain where and how I am going to use these images within my magazine.
This image I have chosen to use on my Front Page, I believe that it has a good background and would be relatively simple to successfully manipulate.
| I have chosen not to use this image, I intended for it to look like they were playing the instruments however it wasn't taken properly and instead I don't believe it was suitable for my magazine. |
| This image I have chosen to use on my Contents Page as the main image, I believe that with manipulation it could look professional and would create a focal point for the whole page. |
Mood Board
This is my mood board, on this are the types of band that my magazine will focus on. I addition they are some of my personal favorite bands.I believe that 80s style music doesn't get the coverage it deserves considering how well like it still is. Therefore i believe that a magazine such as mine will successfully fill this gap in the market.

Richard Dyers Star Theory
In 1979, Richard Dyer published a book simply names 'Stars' within this book he argued that the understanding of media was massively influenced by stars that are well known by everyone. This is one of the reasons that a majority of music magazines feature a star or artist on their front cover. This is an attempt to attract a customer to buy a copy of that magazine as a result of them liking said artist. This therefore increases sales if it is a very famous artist, more people will like their work resulting in more people being likely to buy a copy of the magazine.
It was suggested by dyer that artists and stars are created for merely profitable purposes, rather than their talent. In addition he believed that record companies create controversial and 'different' artists, by means of clothing and activities. This is in the hope that the artist will be inclined to be repeatedly in the public eye as a result of what they get up to. Therefore more people are likely to buy into different forms of media that feature the artist. When an artist expresses his/her beliefs, it tends to attract a crowd of fans that too share the beliefs of that star. Stars tend to focus on ideas suck as sexuality, youth and materialism, this is seen as a way to attract young fans in their teens or young adults. It is this age bracket that by in large buy the most music magazines.
An example of this would be of Marilyn Munroe, it is claimed that many people simply just went to see her films because she was in them rather than how good the film was. In addition it is said that critics claimed that her films were good simply because she was in them rather than because the film was actually impressive.

Serif & Sans Serif Font (Typeface)
This is an example of serif font, on the image you can see that the serif areas are highlighted in red. The idea of serif font is mainly aesthetic. It creates a more professional image to the article on which it may appear, however sometimes serif font can be extreme and create difficulty in reading should the writing be rather small. Therefore is mainly used for headlines or large print on an article, and not used so much on smaller writing or the actual article.
This however is a Sans Serif font, in the image you will find that in comparison to the serif font the sans serif font lacks the additions of serifs at the ends of letters. This is useful as it can be clearer to read in comparison to serif fonts. However it gives and article a less professional look in comparison. Yet I believe that Sans Serif font would be used for the actual written article as it would be considered too plain to be used for anything such as a catchy headline, masthead or subtitle.
