Cohen's Moral Panic

This is a section of the media or a social group that is perceived to be a threat to society. There are five different sections in Cohen's Moral Panic.

Hostility - There is a construction of 'folk devils', that create a divide between 'them' and 'us'.

Volatility - Dramatic panics erupt over subject but don't last long. Results in negative consequence for those not campaigning.

Concern -  The behavior of the group believed to be a threat.

Consensus - There is widespread acceptance of this threat, but very little concern, opposition will be weak and disorganized.

Disproportionality - exaggeration of both the scale of the problem and the number of people both suffering and protesting.
